Leadership is one of those qualities that I believe really helps a student go the extra mile and open doors for themselves in the future. Some students are more apt to lead than others, but having opportunities to lead helps a young person grow and builds confidence. In order to have a chance to become a leader, you have to be given opportunities. Students at the high school have done a great job throughout my years here, as I have watched so many different clubs and groups step up leadership opportunities. For example, I just received a request from the AP government students to create birthday boxes to support local families that might need a little extra help to afford a birthday party. The general idea is that students gather the items for a small birthday party, including the cake ingredients, balloons and other fun birthday items, to make it into a neatly packaged box that can be picked up and taken home to turn into a birthday party. How cool. But that’s just a small example of students that had some extra time after their AP test was over to do something showing leadership and community spirit. Thanks to Mrs. Crago, an opportunity was created for leadership and for young people to see the value of giving back. Though I hope to share that story in a few weeks, the focus of this article is more about our BPA/Chick-fil-A Carnival and another leadership opportunity that goes on at the highschool.
